Incoming File Format Guidelines
1) Vector file formats are preferred. We use AutoCad R14 to create our artwork files, so our preference is for an AutoCad DWG file. If you can’t supply a DWG file, a Drawing Exchange File or DXF is our second preference. Otherwise, we can usually work with several of the more common vector file formats such as CorelDraw 9, Adobe Illustrator 8, or Extended Postscript.
2) Convert fonts to lines/outlines, and save all external references within your file. Many of the fonts you use within your application depend on those fonts being loaded and present on your computer. When you send us a file that references a font that we do not have on our computer, a generic font will be substituted. The result could vary greatly from what you expect! A similar situation can occur if your application is using external references or files. To avoid these situations, convert all fonts to lines/outlines and include external files before saving.
3) Avoid raster (or bitmap) file formats if possible. We can process raster file formats, but they require much more work to obtain an acceptable result. We must first convert raster to vector (required by AutoCad) in order to create artwork. Raster files consist of a grid of dots, or pixels, and are resolution dependent (they lose quality if enlarged). Our raster conversion software traces the raster image and approximates a vector outline of that image, but due to the poor resolution of the typical raster file the result is never as precise as an original vector file.
4) Supply your file on a PC formatted floppy disk, or send via an email attachment to: Quality@engravers.com.

We can scan your image from paper or artwork as well - or create it from your description and/or drawings! |
